Overview
Campbellsville University was founded in 1906 and is a private Christian institute of higher learning with a foundation in liberal arts. It was founded as the Russell Creek Baptist Association. As the school expanded, it became accredited as a college, changing its name to Campbellsville after the town where the school is located. In 1996, it gained university status. Campbellsville University is ranked as one of America’s Best Christian Colleges and in the top ten for lowest student loan debt. It is also ranked in the top 30 best online Christian graduate schools by ChristianUniversitiesOnline.org.
The online Master of Social Work program provides students with an in-depth understanding of the social work industry. Students gain an understanding of human development, cultural competencies as well as psychopathology. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in the social work field. They learn advanced skills in social work with a Christian focus.
Strengths
All courses may be taken online, allowing working adults to advance in a current career or move into a new career while still meeting work, social and family obligations. All programs at Campbellsville include a strong focus on Christian beliefs. Students are prepared for a wide variety of careers in many different settings. The online program does allow students who hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work to enter an Advanced Standing Track Curriculum which is 30 credit hours rather than 60 credit hours. The fully online program, which could take up to two years in a traditional setting, can be completed in as little as 21 months using the online format.

Program Requirements
The online Master of Social Work program at Campbellsville University seeks students who want to change social institutions, organizations, and communities in order to meet the needs of a diverse population as well as those who want to help others realize strengths, manage weaknesses and connect them with resources that may assist them. The mission of the program is to provide social service practitioners with the advanced knowledge they need to offer advanced services to those in need. The program prepares students for this mission in the spirit of Christian service.
In order to be accepted into the program, students must be able to accurately observe clients and assess situations as well as have the ability to carry out assessment activities. Students must be able to communicate effectively and demonstrate competent writing skills. Students must be able to think critically and have the ability to analyze as well as interpret data in order to achieve effective problem-solving. They must have a willingness to acknowledge their own values, attitudes, beliefs and past experiences as far as how they may influence their own thoughts and actions. Students must be mentally stable and able to deal with stressful situations. All students must be committed to the goals of social work and agree to meet ethical standards as specified in the NASW Code of Ethics.
Admissions Requirements
In order to enter the Master of Social Work online program at Campbellsville University, students must submit an application for admission and a Carver School MSW graduate application form. A field practicum application is also required. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher with a minimum of 15 hours of education in the liberal arts. Students must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. They must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on 4.0 scale. Applicants for the Advanced Standing program must hold a Bachelor of Social Work from a CSWE accredited program that they earned within the past 7 years. Students may apply with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 but must provide a personal statement that explains why they believe they will succeed in the program. Three recommendations and a signed statement that they understand the NASW Code of Ethics and the standards of the MSW program.
International students must have a 550 paper TOEFL score or a 2.3 computer score. All applicants must provide a statement that regarding any misdemeanor or felony conviction if they have one. Residents of Alabama, Arkansas, Minnesota, New Mexico and North Carolina do not accept field placements for students who are attending programs outside of their state. Students will not be able to register unless they can secure a field position in a neighboring state.

Internships
Students must complete both a Foundation and Advanced Practicum that are 6-credit hours each. Students must also complete 900 practicum hours of field practice. Students are responsible for finding their own field placements. Placements may be in hospitals, mental health facilities, medical offices or other organizations that require the services of social workers.
