Pursuing a graduate degree in social work expands the career options available after graduation. It also expands the amount of money students must pour into their education. This deters many students from earning their Master of Social Work(MSW)degrees. Fortunately, there are many organizations that want to see students overcome this obstacle to becoming the best social workers they can be. These five scholarships for MSW students are the result of their commitment.
EPICC Scholarship Program
EPICC Stands for Education, Passions, Insight, Career, and Community. One of the ways they seek to build up these values is through the EPICC Social Work. This program offers two financial awards per year. The $1000 Holm Award is for MSW students in their final year of the degree program, and the $500 Osman Award is for MSW students in their first year. To apply, students must submit a completed and original clinical academic paper explaining a social work intervention.
Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund
Most MSW students seek to effect positive social change through their degree programs and resulting careers. The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund seeks to reward students for this endeavor. Grants in the amount of up to $10,000 are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and a commitment to social change through special projects that promote peace and justice, on campus or in the greater community.
The Leopold Schepp Foundation
Volunteerism is an excellent way for MSW students to build up their resumés while still completing their degree programs. The Leopold Schepp Foundation seeks to award full-time students who volunteer for social change and demonstrate both financial need and academic achievement. Number and amount of awards vary.
Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship
Tobacco use, and particularly the role of the media, is a major current social problem. Social work students who are interested in tackling this issue are invited to apply for the Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship, offered through the Truth Initiative. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a commitment to resolving this problem through service work to an under-served community. Applications are currently closed; email adamsscholarship@truthinitiative.org to learn how to begin preparing for the next submission.
Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial MSW Scholarship
The National Association of Social Workers seeks to reward students with a special commitment to the American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations.
